The primary function of the Vice President of Sales and Merchandising is to drive customer transactions, sales and gross profit dollars through merchandising strategies, best practices in category management and new business development in merchandise, fresh foods and services in the company’s network of retail stores.  Up to 40% travel required.


•             Oversee the strategies and tactics that support: Retail Merchandise, Fresh Food, and Services

•             Develop financial budgets and goals, both short and long term that align with company objectives: Manage resources, both internal and external to deliver the maximum sustainable value while delivering a quality product.

•             Use consumer research, both proprietary and shared, to develop strategies and tactics that create a growing and sustainable customer base

•             Conduct or obtain competitive research, to maximize, monitor, evaluate and benchmark the progress of the programs, tests, and campaigns.

•             Partner with the Vice President, Marketing and Vice President, Operations to gain advertising and marketing support required to meet goals.

•             Drive innovation and process improvement into departments and business units

•             Achieve financial and operational targets that contribute to the achievement of company goals

•             Monitor legal, governmental, and industry changes in your functional areas

•             Generate and manage CAPEX initiatives that enhance future growth and profitability

•             Manage store pricing activities, from data collection to analysis and execution

•             Optimize product movement and offerings with sustainable reporting and insight

•             Ensure all merchandise from suppliers is purchased and received at best quality for best price.

•             Recommend sources of supply, verify quotations received and verify that all negotiated contracts benefit the company and our customers.

•             Ensure category management strategies are developed in collaboration with key stakeholders, utilizing available contract programs and resources.

•             Coach and develop the future leaders within the organization.

•             Must have 10+ years of merchandising experience within the convenience store or relevant related industry.

•             Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Retailing or Related Field required MBA Preferred.

•             Must have a deep understanding of convenience retail store operations or relevant related industry.

•             Must understand how to analyze Profit and Loss Statements, develop budgets and detailed work plans to drive performance and profits, and link desired performance and operational tactics.

•             Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a listen first approach. Is just as comfortable communicating with a store associate as a board member

•             Energized by challenges and takes on adversity head on. Is often looked to for leadership in a crisis and relishes the opportunity to lead

•             Will possess a proven merchandising and food acumen with a track record of success

•             Able to translate insight into action and provide merchandising direction to build credible assortment and pricing strategies across formats, regions and channels that will achieve the sales and profit objectives of the Company.

•             Able to think strategically and act tactically.

•             Employs strong merchant’s judgment, well-developed instinct, and inductive reasoning to supplement data/resources when making decisions.

•             A leader who has driven significant growth by identifying and developing new categories and introducing new products that are differentiated and value-added for target customer segments.

•             Ability to generate and promote new ideas while adhering to sound business and financial judgment and while respecting the Company philosophy
