The Director of Merchandising will be responsible for the merchandising initiatives of all the organization’s locations. The DOM will determine the merchandise product mix for all locations and set the plan-o-gram for the merchandise in the various facility types.  The DOM will choose all fixtures for new locations and determine fixture placement within the locations. The DOM will set merchandise pricing for all locations based on market price analysis, negotiated rates with local and national vendors, optimal profit margins, and sale or quantity discounts.


•             Select product mix and define product placement. Select fixture and determine fixture placement.

•             Manage and oversee merchandise prices for all locations. Negotiate lower prices and quantity rebates. Analyze markets that the location operates in and determine market pricing to maximize volume and profit.

•             Analyze, plan, and execute over 100,000 merchandise product price changes per month.

•             Manage, set up, and enhance the organization’s proprietary Merchandise Pricing Systems.

•             Create and implement new initiatives for all categories to increase sales and margins.

•             Analyze current product mix for necessary changes.

•             Research vendors and competitors to obtain new ideas.

•             Negotiation of all Merchandise contracts generating in excess of $10 million in merchandise rebates.

•             Conduct frequent competitor store visits to evaluate the competitive environment.

•             Conduct frequent store visits with Supplier partners and Operations to monitor and evaluate performance to plans.

•             Conducts forecasting, budgeting, and category plans.

•             Develop marketing materials and programs for responsible categories.

•             Analyze P&L performance of all locations.

•             Supervise, manage, and direct category managers, analysts, and support personnel for designated categories.

•             Collaborate with Operations to maximize execution of merchandise programs.

•             Work with maintenance, construction, and procurement to determine optimal equipment and service contracts for all equipment.

•             Develop, analyze, and maintain plan-o-grams for designated categories.

•             Negotiate compliance for all contracts within assigned categories.

•             Analyze pricing for optimal gross profit dollars for designated categories.

•             Develop and analyze customer market research data to optimize sales and margin.

•             Train and develop category managers, analysts, and support staff.

•             Develop and execute communication tools for the field to maximize sales and profits.

•             Plan, develop, and communicate field sales incentive programs/contests.

•             Negotiate supplier support and additional discounting for the sales incentive program.

•             Responsible for working with other managers to develop strategies and initiatives for Merchandise department.

•             Plan and develop goals for assigned merchandise categories.


•             Bachelor’s Degree in Business or other related field.

•             7+ years of related experience, with 5 of those years in a management role.
