The Director of Marketing & Merchandising is responsible for promoting products and driving sales. Accountable to strategize, oversee and execute the annual Marketing Plans; which are critical growth and revenue-drivers for the collective business. This position is also responsible for managing a marketing and merchandising team that will implement strategies and tactics with the maximum amount of cost efficiency while keeping with the high-quality standards of the company. This includes development and coordination across all customer touchpoints and channels—including direct, promotions, grassroots, advertising, social media/networking, and in-store.

Director of Marketing & Merchandising Duties and Responsibilities

• Leads a marketing team that will develop and execute new concepts
• Supervise the work of other staff members to ensure productivity and provide assistance as needed
• Design the presentation of products and managing promotions and displays of merchandise
• Arrange store displays and offer product giveaways or specials discounts as required
• Analyzes market trends and recommends changes to marketing and business strategies based on analysis and feedback
• Develop and execute an annual marketing plan
• Prepares and accountable for annual marketing budget
• Plans and develops a strategy to enable the company to sell a range of products that delivers sales and profit targets
• Uses available reports and information systems to maximize store profitability, control expenses, inventory levels, target margins, and shortages as well as recommend additional reports
• Recognizes the need for site specific marketing strategies as well as division wide strategies; recommends what these strategies should be and works effectively with other departments to implement them
• Creates workable plan-o-grams to ensure proper product placement that will maximize sales
• Ensures merchandising team provides the price book specialist with all necessary information for new and existing SKU’s
• Provides information to Marketing Assistant regarding product, bulletins, authorizations, order guides and other marketing information that needs dissemination to the field
• Collaborates with all departments to achieve desired standard of excellence
• Develop improvement plans, produce monthly reports, and research product implementation
• Performs other duties as required for success of the department


• 10 plus years experience Marketing/Merchandising in a multi-unit retail organization
• Ability to understand current market trends and buying psychology
• Must be creative and have a strong understanding of products
• Knowledge of computers and software programs including Microsoft Office; PDI and Focal Point experience a plus
• Communicates and works as a team player with others
• Able to work independently and able to learn quickly
• Able to multitask in a fast paced environment, adjust to change, puts forth initiative
• Able to work flexible hours including weekends, nights, and holidays
• Strong organizational and critical thinking skills
• Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, merchandising, or related field
