Gene Gerke has 25+ years experience in management consulting. He focuses on strategic and business planning, executive consultation, and succession planning. In addition to consulting, Gene serves on a couple of Boards.
For more than 25 years, Gene Gerke has been providing consulting services to the convenience store and petroleum marketing industries. Gene brings a unique perspective since his clients span all segments of the industry – retail chains, single-store operators, wholesalers, product and service suppliers, equipment manufacturers, software providers and major trade associations. Also adding to perspective, Gene has done consulting throughout North America and in South America, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, and Japan.
Gerke & Associates with Gene’s leadership has consulted with the convenience store/fuel marketing industries on a broad range of topics. Examples of industry work include: worked with a regional chain to develop a new c-store business model; worked on supply chain issues including activity based costing and value of service, served as lead consultant on the industry’s technology standards effort; consulted with industry suppliers on marketing issues and strategies; designed and developed training programs for retailers, franchisors, distributors, and suppliers; helped prepare the annual "State of the Industry Report" for the National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS); conducted operations analysis and improvement programs for c-store chains; helped a major oil company design, develop, and implement a new convenience store concept; and worked with convenience store firms to evaluate and implement sound information technology.
Gene Gerke was a founding partner of CSX, LLC which provides on-line benchmarking for the convenience store and petroleum marketer industries. See www.csxllc.com. In 2007 CSX was acquired by NACS, the Association for Convenience and Petroleum Retailing. Gene served on the CSX Board for 3 years following the acquisition.
Gene has given several hundred presentations at business meetings, seminars and conventions. In addition to speaking, he has authored several articles including one for The International Trends in Retailing journal titled "Developing and Implementing Technology Standards: A Success Story for the Convenience Store Industry."
Gene’s community involvement is extensive. He has served as President of the Missouri Innovation Center; Board of Directors of the Columbia Area United Way; Board of Directors of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce; President of the Sacred Heart Church Parish Council; Treasurer of the Missouri FarmHouse Foundation; President of the Columbia Kiwanis Club; and Member of the Governor’s Missouri Seed Capital Investment Board. Gene currently serves is Vice President of Centennial Investors, an angel investing network.
He has degrees from Purdue University and the University of Missouri.
Gene and his wife, Pat, live in Columbia, Missouri. They have three adult children: Brian, Alison, and Emily.
